Wanti (an adaptation of Martu wangka 'wantikaja', meaning women)

Powerhouse Wanti II is the second exhibition in a curatorial series presented by Martumili Artists curated by artist, and emerging curator Sylvia Wilson, recognising the strength of Martu women through painting.

Sylvia brings together paintings by Betty Whyoulter, Yikartu Bumba (Petersen), Gladys ‘Kuru’ Bidu and Beverley Rogers — four women Sylvia has admired throughout her life and paints alongside at Martumili Artists across Newman and Martu Country.

Rich in colour, movement and memory, these artworks invite you to experience each artist's unique relationship with ngurra (home, Country), family and culture. Together, they offer a deeply personal expression of place, identity and belonging, inviting you to connect with four powerful voices from across Martu Country.
