About the event
The Junction Co. and Courthouse Gallery+Studio warmly invite you to Lines of Light, an exhibition showcasing photography, painting, and art prints by artists from Mowanjum, a vibrant Kimberley community. These artists’ creative practices speak boldly to place, memory, and cultural continuity, illuminating shared stories with resonant voices and powerful visual language.
This exhibition is a shared expression of stories deeply rooted in Wanjina Wunggurr culture. Photography and painting are used not only as artistic mediums, but as powerful tools for cultural transmission, reflection, and transformation. From documentary-style images to expressive abstraction and rich, symbolic paintings, the works highlight the diversity of visual storytelling within the Mowanjum community.
Mowanjum artists are known for carrying forward ancestral knowledge through strong visual language, often blending traditional motifs with contemporary expression. Whether through the lens or the brush, these works explore connections to Country, identity, and spiritual presence. Photography captures moments of lived experience and cultural strength, while painting continues to assert deep ties to creation stories, ceremony, and shared histories.
Lines of Light invites audiences to experience these mediums side by side, not as separate practices, but as interconnected expressions of community, culture, and innovation. This exhibition is a celebration of visual sovereignty, where each artist’s work contributes to a collective voice that is grounded, vibrant, and evolving.
