Simon has been creative his whole life, whether it was art lessons with noted South Australian artist Ruth Tuck, as a Town Planner working in Local Government or in his entrepreneurial career as a milliner and hatter while owning his own retail and manufacturing company making headwear. On selling the business in 2000 Simon began his formal qualifications in the arts industry by obtaining a Diploma in Visual Arts majoring in sculpture, a Certificate in Public Art and then a Degree in Creative Industries (with honours) studying at James Cook University in Cairns FNQ. Since his studies Simon has been actively making, selling, exhibiting and working in the business of art as well as very involved running workshops, curating, judging and writing funding applications. Post Covid lockdowns Simon sought a quiet existence in the remote arid landscape of Western Australia’s goldfield region, seeking a painting style that suited his working method and is still thoroughly enjoying the creative process. He has collected numerous art awards along the way and is in both Public and private collections. Artist Statement My painting style is in some ways borrowed from the pointillists and colourists of the last few centuries but with a modern algorithmic twist and in a neo-impressionistic way. This style has allowed me to follow my enjoyment and use of colour and given me numerous epiphanies into the science of painting where, I can daub a specific shape of a tonal colour and achieve a depth of field that brings a level of understanding to the viewer. The success of accomplishment in successfully bringing a vision into reality is uplifting.
