Finding Space

Janaka Mcgeary
Stoneware, Glaze

Six enclosed forms use colour and volume as a way of understanding place. Shifts in tone and form reflect how landscape guides the ways space is held and occupied, echoing a gradual movement north through changing terrain.

About the Artist

Janaka Mcgeary

Kimberley

Janaka McGeary is an emerging ceramic artist based in Broome, Western Australia. Working primarily with stoneware on the potter’s wheel, his practice centres on the quiet potential of form, surface and fired clay. Through both sculptural and functional works, he considers how material, colour and form can be used to interact with space and landscape. His practice is grounded in the rhythms of making, where the wheel becomes a site for ongoing exploration of presence, place and the expressive capacity of hand thrown form.
