Beet That!
Product Details

Artwork Description:

"Beet That! celebrates the joy of growing your own food. Inspired by my husband, an enthusiastic gardener, this hand-knitted beetroot turns an everyday vegetable into something worthy of closer attention. Using cotton and silk yarns, I have focused on its colour, texture and shape, revealing the beauty that can be found in ordinary things.

The slow process of knitting reflects the time, patience and care needed to grow food, from planting a seed to harvesting a crop. Through this work, I hope to encourage people to think about where their food comes from and the satisfaction of growing it themselves.

At its heart, Beet That! is a celebration of the simple rewards of bringing food from the garden to the table."

Artist Bio:

Sarah grew up in a farming household in which making and creating were necessary and valued. Through the women of her family, Sarah learnt many handcraft skills over the years. Knitting became a passion after receiving a lovely, hand-knit beanie as a gift.
In 2001, Sarah, a primary school teacher, and her husband, Gavin, moved to the south coast of Western Australia to give their children a country upbringing similar to the one they both enjoyed. In 2025, Sarah moved to the Pilbara, where she is continuing her teaching career at Yandeyarra Remote Community School.
Knitting has become a medium for expressing creativity through functional, fun pieces for Sarah. She enjoys using yarn to make artwork, solving problems along the way, breaking a few of those knitting rules, and producing the unexpected.
